Carlo Goldstein è tra i giovani direttori d’orchestra emergenti del panorama internazionale. Dopo la vittoria del primo premio all’International Conducting Competition di Graz nel 2009 ha iniziato un’intensa attività in Italia e all’estero.
Nel 2018 Carlo Goldstein ha debuttato con un concerto sinfonico sul podio della Sächsische Staatskapelle di Dresda (Schönberg, Weber e Mendelssohn), all’Opera di Sydney dirigendo Carmen e al Daegu Opera Festival in Corea con Turandot; nel corso della stagione ha inoltre diretto Carmen al Ponchielli di Cremona, spettacolo poi ripreso al Grande di Brescia, al Sociale di Como e al Fraschini di Pavia, Madama Butterfly e La Traviata al Arts Center di Seoul e Busan, concerti sinfonici in Israele e un concerto sinfonico al Petruzzelli di Bari (Cresta, Prokof’ev, Mahler e Rota) dove tornerà a fine anno per dirigere ancora La Traviata.
Nelle passate recenti stagioni ha diretto tra le altre cose Carmen alla Fenice di Venezia, La Bohème nei teatri di Reggio Emilia, Como e Pavia, Ballo in Maschera al Art Center di Seoul, Così Fan Tutte all’Opera di Tenerife, Carmen ancora a Seoul e nei teatri di Livorno, Lucca e Pisa, Adriana Lecouvreur nei teatri di Como, Pavia e Cremona e Pagliacci nel Festival estivo del Teatro Sociale di Como, spettacolo premiato con il Premio Abbiati 2016.
E ancora diverse produzioni de L’elisir d’amore, il Matrimonio segreto e L’Orfeo per il Festival della Valle d’Itria.
In ambito sinfonico ha diretto in Italia concerti con l’Orchestra del Maggio Musicale di Firenze, l’Orchestra dell’Arena di Verona, l’Orchestra del Teatro Massimo di Palermo, l’Orchestra del Teatro Verdi di Trieste, I Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano, l’Orchestra Regionale Toscana, l’Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, la Sinfonica Abruzzese e gli Archi del Cherubino.
All’estero ha diretto più volte in Israele sia la Raanana Symphonette Orchestra di Tel Aviv che la Israel Camerata al Jerusalem Theater; ha partecipato in Germania al Festival Internationale Schostakowitsch Tage in Gohrisch dirigendo lavori di Eisler e Dessau; ha diretto svariate orchestre in Russia tra le quali la St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra, la Hermitage Symphony Orchestra, la Tomsk Philharmonic Orchestra, la Omsk Philharmonic Orchestra, la Arkhangelsk Chamber Orchestra, la Murmansk Philharmonic Orchestra, la Bryansk Symphony Orchestra e la Samara Philharmonic.
Carlo Goldstein è da sempre molto attivo nella musica contemporanea, ha diretto al Festival Milano Musica 2016 e ha diretto diverse prime esecuzioni di autori contemporanei italiani e stranieri. Ha collaborato tra gli altri con MDI ensemble e Divertimento Ensemble.
Carlo Goldstein ha inciso, tre Concerti di Mozart con il pianista Andrea Bacchetti e l’Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, per la rivista Amadeus; registrazione poi ripresa dall’etichetta Dynamic e recensita entusiasticamente anche dal BBC Music Magazine di Londra.
Ha anche inciso un CD contenente Arie italiane, con il tenore Massimo Giordano e l’Ensemble dell’Orchestra del Maggio Musicale di Firenze, edito da BMG.
Carlo Goldstein, oltre agli studi musicali – Conservatorio di Trieste, Accademia Internazionale della Musica di Milano, Mozarteum di Salisburgo e Royal College di Londra – è laureato in Filosofia – Estetica – presso l’Università Statale di Milano e ha all’attivo diverse pubblicazioni di carattere estetologico e storico musicale. Il canale Classica – in onda in Italia su Sky – ha realizzato una puntata su di lui nella serie Notevoli, dedicata ai giovani talenti italiani.

biography
Carlo Goldstein is emerging on the international scene as a young conductor of superb promise. After winning first prize at the International Conducting Competition of Graz in 2009, he has performed extensively in Italy and at many leading concert halls worldwide.
In 2018, Carlo Goldstein made his debut with a symphonic concert on the podium of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden (Schönberg, Weber and Mendelssohn), at the Sydney Opera House conducting Carmen, and at the Daegu International Opera Festival in Korea with Turandot. During the season, he also conducted Carmen at Ponchielli di Cremona – a performance which then toured Grande di Brescia, Sociale di Como, and Fraschini di Pavia – Madama Butterfly and La Traviata at the Seoul Arts Center and Busan Cultural Center in Korea, several symphonic concerts in Israel, and a symphonic concert at Petruzzelli di Bari (Cresta, Prokofiev, Mahler and Rota), where he will return at the close of the year to conduct La Traviata once more.
In recent seasons Goldstein has conducted, among others, Carmen at La Fenice in Venice, La Bohème in the theaters of Reggio Emilia, Como and Pavia, Un Ballo in Maschera at the Seoul Arts Center, Così Fan Tutte at the Opera of Tenerife, Carmen again in Seoul and in the theaters of Livorno, Lucca and Pisa, Adriana Lecouvreur in the theaters of Como, Pavia and Cremona, and Pagliacci at the Summer Festival of the Teatro Sociale di Como – a production which received the prestigious 2016 Abbiati Prize. Other projects have included productions of L’elisir d’amore, Il matrimonio segreto, and L’Orfeo for the Festival della Valle d’Itria.
Carlo Goldstein conducted several symphonic concerts in Italy with the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Orchestra of the Arena di Verona, Orchestra of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Orchestra of the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, I Pomeriggi Musicali in Milan, Orchestra Regionale Toscana, Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, Sinfonica Abruzzese, and Archi del Cherubino.

Carlo Goldstein has always been an advocate of contemporary music. He conducted at the 2016 Milano Musica Festival, and has conducted several early performances of works by contemporary Italian and international composers. He has collaborated with MDI Ensemble and Divertimento Ensemble, among others.
Carlo Goldstein recorded three Mozart Concertos with pianist Andrea Bacchetti and the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto for Amadeus magazine. Released on the Dynamic label, the recording was enthusiastically reviewed by BBC Music Magazine in London. He also recorded a CD of Italian Arias with tenor Massimo Giordano and the Ensemble of the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, which was released by BMG.
In addition to his musical studies – at the Conservatory of Trieste, the International Academy of Music in Milan, the Salzburg Mozarteum and the Royal College of London – Carlo Goldstein holds a degree in Philosophy – Aesthetics – from the University of Milan and has published several articles on aesthetics and the history of music. Goldstein has been a featured artist on the Notevoli series, showcasing up-and-coming Italian talents, which was broadcast by the Classica channel on Sky Italia.
